2020 was just your average year around here: a career switch, cross-country move, and new baby were just a few of the low key things we did while the pandemic raged on. While Ben conquered his biggest physical feat in 2019, I accomplished mine in 2020: growing and birthing an amazing tiny human.
Now, don't let these lovely glowing pregnant lady photos fool you: I was a miserable pregnant lady. I'm pretty sure that I just replied to all texts with an angry wet cat meme starting at 39 weeks. So, to all those who had to deal with me, sorry about that little time period of hostility.
Good news is that at the end of all of that, we got a baby! And she is a girl! We were shocked- we were 90% sure we were going to have a boy. We opted to have a home birth, and it was an amazing experience. Our midwife Mary was a perfect fit for me, and I felt so safe, educated, and empowered throughout my entire pregnancy and delivery.
Our little babe gave us our first crash course on her personality: girlfriend knows what she wants. And when she decided it was time, she wanted out. It was a whirlwind 6 hours between the time my contractions started/water broke and when we held her in our arms.
Vera Tenney Stanforth was born at 12:15 AM on September 17, 2020. She weighed in at a whopping 8lb 15 oz (after she pooped on me, so there was definitely a full 9lb baby I had to push out... just making sure we give credit where credit is due).
We are so lucky to have a healthy, happy, squishy, observant little lady to love every day. It's been a wild ride, and we have been enjoying every [okay, almost every] minute.
Quick note on homebirths: I believe people should give birth where they feel the safest. That was home for me. As with all things regarding your body, lifestyle, and parenting choices, you do you✌
