"I have an idea." This is most often something that comes out of my (Emily) mouth, followed by "Of course you do" from whomever is about to be the target of or accomplice to said idea. This, though, the idea of the century, is not one I can take credit for. This one is all Ben.

On a bike ride around the lake in Madison, Ben suggested a surprise wedding. Everyone wins: we have a small, intimate event. No gifts, no rigamaroll, no uncomfortable outfits or bridal party. Just us, getting married, surrounded by our closest family and friends.
On June 16, we pulled it off. It was a perfect, beautiful day filled with Chicago skylines, CorePower yoga, tacos, and margaritas. I could go over all of the details (because, Lord knows this was planned to a T, with {if}logic excel spreadsheets), but here are the important details:
Our friends and family traveled from all over the country for us, and they didn't even know we were getting married! They thought they were surprising us for our engagement party. We greeted and surprised everyone as they came in. Then, 2 of our best friends in the whole world married us in a beautiful ceremony that exuded love. We polished off the night with dancing, bottomless rosemary margaritas and so. many. tacos.
My friend Jackie summed up the sentiment that most people conveyed all weekend: "I was absolutely shocked, but not at all surprised."
If you're in need of some new friends or family, we highly recommend ours.
Stay tuned for another post with more pics, and a video synopsis.

We've been to many weddings and it was the first time we had a good excuse for not having a card! Such a great weekend celebrating a wonderful couple and making new friends! We'll never forget it! Nice work!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... I still have no words. This was the most genuinely loving bringing together of two partners I can remember experiencing. The feeling of relaxed ease, all the while wrapped in excitement, was palpable. We feel so blessed to have been included in on this event. Thank you for leaving me speechless
ReplyDeleteBen and Emily look as happy as we know they are! We are too!
ReplyDeleteThere is no greater joy than having a daughter, that you love with all of your heart, unite with an amazing person who you know will love her as much as you and who she loves back the same! Your wedding was so perfect! And.... a ton of fun! Love you both to the moon!
